Dear EMS Provider,
As a professional EMS provider, you are charged with the community responsibility of FIRST prehospital care. As you know, you are subject to a wide array of situations some of which are relatively predictable and some of which are extremely complex and totally unpredictable. Here at FTC our focus is skilled management of the trauma victim. Under certain situations 'this can be a very lonely task.' We strive to prepare you for those unpredictable events because as first provider at the scene, your initial assessment and intervention can mean the difference in life or death to the patient. FIRST Trauma Care addresses the prioritized assessment of the trauma victim in single day format emphasizing hands on assessment, treatment, and transport preparation. The didactic portions of this course can be taken separately online or as an option on-site. See below for the current course schedule.
The on-site course has a precourse study component, lectures, and skill stations that emphasize hands-on practical teaching. The prioritized assessment & treatment format is emphasized. Evaluations, both written and practical, are for measuring course and faculty effectiveness. There is no certification procedure. This permits learning in a relaxed, yet challenging environment. Your course preparation packet is sent following receipt of your registration. Plan on spending 4-8 hours of study time if this is an initial trauma education program. Those who have previously participated in FTC should plan on committing 1-2 hours of general study time as a refresher. The entire on-site program runs for about 10 hours. A final written test and practical performance evaluations are required to complete the course. Classes will generally begin at 8 am and conclude by 6 pm. To register for the on-site course, complete the form below and forward with payment to First Trauma Care.
The online course has lecture material with quizzes corresponding to each section. Once you have registered and payment received, you will be given access to the course for a 30-day time period. After the online portion has been completed, you will have another 60 days in which to register for and complete the practical, hands-on portion of the course. Class time for this option will run approximately 5 hours since you will have completed the lectures and module testing online. A final written test and practical performance evaluations are required to complete the course.
